Recently I started seeing them for a health issue that should have been fairly simple to diagnose given my past history. However they seemed very uninterested in helping me. They sent me on my way and left me with zero solutions to my problem. I called repeatedly to follow up to ask for more tests which they reluctantly ordered. I called for the results and the nurse explained that the blood work was normal. I checked online and found out my levels were actually abnormal and I was misinformed. This was upsetting because these abnormal results could be (and turned out to be) the reason for my medical issues. But they ignored the results and said they were normal. They never scheduled a follow up even though my issues were never addressed.
Dr. Danaher is a really good doctor, she takes her time with you and is thorough BUT she has way to many patients and can't keep up with everyone. She moved to a bigger office space in lockport to accommodate the amount of patients yet she won't hire another doctor to team with her at her practice which I believe would make a huge difference in the negative reputation her office has. Sue and Pam are the only competent office staff in the whole practice. They try really hard and seem over worked. Medicine refills are always a long wait , longer then the 48 hours they say. Over this past weekend I had to call the emergency line and never got a call back, this is not the first time. I like the doctor but the practice in a whole is a mess.
Horrible service. Long wait times. They are completely unwilling to work with you on billing. I missed an appointment (never received a reminder call) called the office....after Sue looked for the note on my account saying they called me and couldn't find it she then switched the conversation to "well the call is really a courtesy" I understand that but in my 31 years of going to the doctor I have never not been extended that courtesy. Sue then stated she would talk to the dr about the fee nad call me back that day....well 2 days later I still never got a call back. So I contacted the office and it was then that I found out they refused to waive the $50 no show appointment fee because it was a 30 min time slot, even though they have no problem making you wait in their office for 45 mins after your scheduled appointment time. I also needed them to sign a paper saying it was ok for me to start a weight loss program, I had just been to the office the week before for my check up, they made me schedule a new appointment to sign a piece of paper (no other info was needed other than the drs. signature) and then charged me another copay for it. The staff is rude and acts like it is an inconvenience for you to be there. I highly recommend finding a different doctor.
So on that note, after being a patient at this practice for over 15 years, I'll be finding a new primary care doctor. One that does actually care for it's patients. As sweet as the receptionist Sue has always remained and kept that home town vibe alive, and Dr. Danaher has been professional and helpful when I did rarely see her, the rest of the staff, nurses, and nurse practitioners have ruined it. For the sake of their current patients I hope they take a long hard look at who they choose to employ and how those employees are treating their dedicated, long time patients.
I made the mistake of calling Dr. Danaher's office again for something else. I needed to get back on some migraine medicine. They had diagnosed me with migraines previously and prescribed me migraine meds awhile back. I was taking medicine from another doctor in the meantime that happened to prevent migraines in addition to other things but unfortunately I had to stop that medicine. Now I would be needing my old migraine meds from Dr. Danaher's again. It shouldn't have been an issue but apparently it was. Even though I had just been seen a couple weeks ago, the rude nurse claimed they couldn't give me my medication because they needed to schedule me a visit. This didn't make sense to me. I was diagnosed by them. I was given my meds by them. I was just seen by them. But they needed me to come in. Why? Money probably. My migraines didn't cure themselves. Nothing has changed. They wanted me to come in, sit on their table, pay a lot of money, be seen for 2 whole minutes by a nurse practitioner who blew off my last health issue I complained about, tell her "my migraines are still the same as before", and then they can give me my medication? When I expressed my views on this, the nurse with the bad attitude told me I should find a new doctor.
My parents and I both see this office and the experience is a very mixed one. My father goes for yearly check ups and loves the office and his experience, where as my mother and I go in monthly for maintenance visits regarding health issues. My mother has a crippling fear of the doctor which she expressed and they did not treat her sympathetically at all. She has dealt with excessive blood loss during menstruation her whole life and it effects her life greatly. She finally came over this fear so she could talk to the doctor about possible hormone therapy or surgery but she wouldn't even discuss her options with her and kept pushing her into taking the pill which at my mother's age IS VERY DANGEROUS. A simple look at her chart could have told her that. So my mother went through all the hoops of getting blood tests and exams (she found out on her patient portal that she is anemic and the doctor never even discussed the results with her or how to live with being anemic) and during her last exam, a pap smear, the doctor was talking and joking with her nurse the entire time and ignoring my mother. They were in the process of moving at the time and a screw fell out of the exam table while my mom was on it and Danaher laughed, brushing it off. When she finished she didn't even speak to my mother except to say they were done and she could pay at the front desk. My mother was disrespected on multiple visits by these people, her fear of doctors has been reignited, and she cried for a week straight saying she needed to accept that she was going to have to keep living this way for years until menopause finally takes hold because if her own doctor won't help her or take her seriously who will. It's been months and she still refuses to go to another doctor. And in my own experience, the front office staff has mixed up my prescriptions multiple times, I desperately needed an x-ray of my tail bone (I fell down a flight of stairs two years ago and have terrible chronic pain) and when I went to get it done at another location had been told that the doctor wrote it wrong for a spine instead and they couldn't xray my tailbone without the prescription. When I went back to the doctor, she told me my x-ray looked normal and that nothing seems wrong so I should try physical therapy. I had to correct her and tell her that we discussed the issue was my tailbone and she wrote for a spine x-ray, that's why it looks normal, because nothing is wrong with my spine. She then took a second look and acknowledged it was the wrong area and said they would need to redo it (of course another thing to pay for.). I also needed a pap smear as I'm 21 and when I mentioned it to the doctor she told me I didn't need one until I was 21 and bid me farewell and left before I could correct her that I am in fact 21. Again, a simple look at my file could have told her that. Finally, for the past seven months I've been having monthly appointments regarding taking an antidepressant. Twice another woman, Erica, handled my appointment and it was night and day compared to the doctor. When Danaher went back to handling them, I felt as if she was questioning my depression, insinuating that once I got out more that I would get better. I was severely abused as a child and it's haunted me to this day and caused me mental health issues my whole life, but of course the problem is I'm not getting out enough. Hopefully I can request to see Erica from now on in the future. Again though, my dad's yearly check ups are great and he loves the staff and Dr. Danaher, so buyer beware. Everyone will have their own experiences, this was just mine and my mother's.
As a patient of over 15 years, this practice has slowly gone downhill and I've finally had enough to the point where I've decided it's time to find another doctor. It used to be just small mistakes, like forgetting to return a call I made about my results or forgetting to call in a refill. After awhile there were more serious issues.
This office always used to have a small town feel and was always very welcoming. Now when you call for results you get a nurse with an attitude who knows very little about medical information but refuses to let you speak to a doctor when you request to.
EVERY MONTH, my doctor and her office screw up my medication. They have continued to not remedy the situation either correctly or not at all. How difficult is it to read my file? AGAIN, I had to call them the other day and this time, they placed me on hold for 10 minutes then disconnected me. When I called back, they were on lunch, according to their voicemail. Angry, I went off on them on their Facebook page because of this habitual problem and because people's health is not to be taken lightly!
Today, I received an angry phone call from their office that they're dropping me, which is fine, since I have been looking for a new doctor. I am not a paycheck; I am a human being. I, along with others, rely on you doctors to keep us healthy.
After getting nowhere and feeling like I was left out in the cold, I went to an obgyn for my issues in hopes they could help. On the very first visit she ran tests and diagnosed me immediately and got me started on the proper medication. She caught all of the things that had been missed from Dr. Danaher's practice. One day. All of my suffering, anxiety, embarrassment, and pain, was ended in one visit to a doctor who actually took the time to listen to me and not push me out of her door.
